O. Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?
Ap. I want a better future for my family and my children in a safe and prosperous environment.
I always had a fascination with the country and the culture. I know that Canada historicaly is a country of
immigrants and I believe with my skills and qualifications I will be able to successfully settle down and
find a good job. I am a very result oriented individual and I am looking forward to all the opportunities
I know I will find in Canada.
O. What is your intended occupation in Canada?
Ap. I am applying as a professional computer programmer. My work experience and professional skills are
highlighted in my application form. Here is my resume. And I have also included some reference letters
from my current and previous employers.

O. According to your Diploma you are an Engineer, not a computer programmer.
Ap. At the University I was majoring in Electrical Engineering. However, for 2 straignt years before the graduation
I was taking specialized computer programming courses as a part of my study. I have some credits which are recorded
in my academic transcript. While studing at the University (in my 3-rd year) I applied
for internship to a local Computer Center and was accepted shortly after. There I gained some very valuable hands-on
experience and learned some programming languages and their practical application. After graduation I have been
studying on my own. I wrote a few exams, and now I am officially certified by Novell and Microsoft.
O. Microsoft? Very good... Have you ever worked as a programmer?
Ap. Yes, I have. In fact all my working experience I worked as a Computer Specialist.

O. Could you please describe what it is that you do? Do your duties at your current work involve computing
and programming?
Ap. I develop computer programs. I design custom business solution, write code, debug and test them.
I use C++ on Windows NT, Windows 98 and Linux.
O. Where did you study English?
Ap. English was one of the subjects I took at the University. When you deal with the new technologies,
and especially computers, you have to be able to read and understand English to be on top of the latest developments
in the business. I took some English Language Classes.

O. Have you ever been abroad?
Ap. My wife and I went to Germany last year.
O. What was the purpose of this trip?
Ap. We went to visit a friend of ours who lives in Munich.
O. Ok. Let's get back to your application. Your Application and the rest of your papers are very well prepared
and translated. Did anyone help you in your preparation?
Ap. Well, all the necessary information is available on the Internet. I used the Application Form and the Guide
for an Independent Applicant from the official web site of Immigration Canada. As for translation of my documents,
I chose to use a Certified Translator who lives in Canada, after considering several places. I believe his
qualification and experience as well as the knowledge of Russian culture and specifics helped him to translate my
documents in the most accurate way.

O. How are you going to look for a job in Canada?
Ap. I am going to use all the available means to find the job. I will actively use internet and the internet
newsgroups.
A lot of computer comanies put job openings on the Internet.
I will be checking Classified Ads in the local media
and I will be sending my resumes to all the prospective employers
in the area. I am going to keep a close contact with the recruiting companies since they proved to help a lot of
professionals. Also, I have really good references and I hope that they will help me to find the right position soon.
In other words I have a very clear strategy of finding the job according to my skills in a very short time.
